hello world

I'm calling this blog: roots. It's my little corner of the internet where I’m putting words to the process of carving out a life on my family’s homestead—a blank canvas full of projects, questions, and experiments.

This space is part journal, part workshop, and part philosophical rabbit hole. It’s where I’ll document the messy, unfinished process of figuring out what it means to live intentionally, build things with my hands, and untangle the big questions that keep my curious brain awake at night. Some days, it’ll be about constructing something tangible—a DIY project on the homestead or a system to make life more sustainable. Other days, it’ll be about connecting thoughts—exploring the frameworks and philosophies that shape how we see the world and connect with each other.

I’ve named this blog roots because it feels like the perfect way to describe the balancing act I’m trying to live. It’s about being grounded in the present—connected to the land, my history, and the work in front of me—while also growing toward the future, where curiosity, new ideas, and endless possibilities wait to be explored. This is a personal catalog of that process: the experiments, the failures, the lessons learned, and the meaning made along the way.

What’s Ahead?

Here’s a taste of the kinds of things I’ll be sharing here:

  • Life on the Homestead: Reflections on moving back to the land where I grew up, balancing its rural rhythms with the connectedness of the internet, and tackling the never-ending list of DIY projects that come with living on a farm.
  • Philosophical Rabbit Holes: I love exploring the big questions—faith, meaning, morality, and progress. Expect thought experiments, frameworks, and reflections on how these ideas intersect with everyday life.
  • Creative Tinkering: Whether it’s building something with my hands, trying out new skills, or finding unconventional solutions to problems, I’ll share what I’m working on (including what doesn’t work).
  • Personal Stories: Growing up in the evangelical South, navigating faith, and finding community online are big parts of my story. I’ll share them here, not as a guide, but as a way to connect and reflect.

This blog isn’t a polished guide or a manifesto. It’s a journal—a collection of moments, ideas, and projects that reflect where I am right now and where I’m trying to go. My hope is that by sharing this process, it’ll spark curiosity and remind you (and me) that life doesn’t need to be perfect to be meaningful.

So, here’s to starting. To messy beginnings, blank canvases, and the courage to share the process.

Thanks for stopping by. Let’s see where this goes.
